Porcelain Veneers
Overview
Veneers are thin, custom-made shells designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve their appearance. They are an excellent option for correcting discoloration, chips, gaps, or slightly misaligned teeth. Veneers provide a natural-looking, long-lasting solution for a brighter, more even smile.
What to Expect
The process usually requires two visits. During the first visit, your dentist will prepare the teeth. Traditional veneers involve removing a small amount of enamel to make room for the veneers, but in some cases, no-prep veneers are an option. These can be placed directly on the tooth without altering its structure, preserving more of your natural enamel. Impressions or digital scans are taken to create custom veneers in a dental lab. Temporary veneers may be placed in the meantime if needed. On the second visit, the permanent veneers are bonded to your teeth, adjusted for fit and appearance, and polished.
Veneers can be made from different materials depending on your needs. Porcelain is highly durable and closely mimics natural tooth enamel.
Aftercare
Maintain good oral hygiene by brushing twice a day and flossing daily. Avoid biting into very hard foods or using your teeth as tools, as this can chip or damage veneers. Regular dental check-ups help monitor the condition of your veneers and overall oral health. While veneers are stain-resistant, it’s best to minimize habits that can cause discoloration, such as heavy coffee or tea consumption.
Why It Matters
Veneers not only improve the aesthetics of your smile but can also protect the surface of damaged teeth. Whether traditional or no-prep, they are a conservative cosmetic option that provides a natural, long-lasting result, helping you feel more confident when you smile.
